Surprised, no. Appalled, yes. The UK has made the same mistake that the USA has made. Schools have pushed a damaging message of inclusion and diversity, which harms the society that immigrants join. The true message to send is one of imilation. When you move somewhere you should make every attempt to espouse their way of life. If that is not acceptable, then DON'T move there. I bear no ill will to people of other cultures. It's just that if you immigrate, you must imilate. Learn the culture and most of all, learn the language.
